Faculty/Staff AKD Membership & Renewal

Congratulations on your successful work this semester at Iowa State University. I hope this letter finds you and your family well!

I invite you to join or renew your membership with Alpha Kappa Delta, the Sociology Honor Society. The name, Alpha Kappa Delta, represents the first three letters of the Greek words anthropon (mankind), katamanthanein (to investigate thoroughly or to conduct research), and diakonesein (for the purpose of service). More than 500 chapters of the Society exist worldwide, comprised of undergraduate and graduate students with high academic achievement and dedication to sociology who look to you as leaders in the field.

We rely on your yearly renewal and membership fees, as well as donations, to fund the annual Honors Banquet where scholarships are presented to undergraduate and graduate sociology students. We also are involved with other events to focus on the sociology program here at ISU. For the past two years, we have donated gifts at the Rural Sociological Societys silent auction. This year we coordinated, along with SOS, a very successful garage sale. Future plans involve becoming involved with a signature event, exploring ties with other AKD groups in Iowa, and establishing stronger ties with the undergraduate program here.

Thank you for your past support. If you are not already a member, the fee is $45 the membership form may be downloaded here. Your form and check, made out to AKD, can be placed in the AKD site mailbox or given to any officer. Renewals are $5 (note attached renewal form as well). We also accept donations for general operating fund or specific use.
