Eric O. Hoiberg Scholarship in Public Service and Administration in Agriculture

Eric O. Hoiberg was born March 30, 1944 in Fayette, Missouri. He received his BA, MA and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln (in 1966, 1969 and 1973). He joined the ISU Department of Sociology in 1974 and served for 21 years as a faculty member and as the advisor for and coordinator of the Public Service and Administration in Agriculture Program (1974-1995). In 1995 he became the Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the College of Agriculture where he remained until his retirement in 2004.

 The College of Agriculture made the initial contribution and established the Eric O. Hoiberg Scholarship in Public Service and Administration in Agriculture to honor Dr. Hoiberg for his 30 years of service to the University and to the College of Agriculture. Friends, former students, colleagues and family also contribute to this fund. Dr. Hoiberg’s wish is that the scholarship be used primarily to recruit outstanding students into the PSA Program.

Requirements: 1. Must be a PSA (Public Service and Administration in Agriculture) major (undergraduate) or have PSA the declared major for incoming freshman or transfer students. 2. Top 20% of graduating high school class or if a current student, shall have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. 3. Preference given to incoming freshman students. 4. Scholarship will be for one year only. Application: None. Recipient will be selected by the Sociology Department. (Decision made in early February.)
